The blessings and burdens from our Ancestors

Our Northern European ancestors talk about the importance of receiving our ancestral birthright, which they refer to as Hamingja, which roughly translates as blessing or fortune.

Hamingja was very important to our ancestors as without it we are not complete in Soul.  Another reason they place so much importance on Hamingja is that when we don’t do the work necessary to obtain our blessings, the burdens become greater and Soul fragmentation increases. Suffice to say, our ancestral lines become darker and more obscure leaving distortions for future members of the lineage.

When we are born into our ancestral lines, we take on the responsibility of transmuting the burdens but also being open to doing the healing work to receive the blessings. Often the burdens are obvious through the trauma responses but sometimes the burdens are not necessarily what we consider something that comes through as ancestral burden but they can create hardship nonetheless.

I have a personal example to share from my one of my grandmother lines. This line is a mix of bloodlines including Northern European, Celtic and a small amount of South East Asian.  I knew little of this line but I did know that it didn’t contain much light. Overall, the lineage had been struggling with trauma and hardship for many generations.

Before healing the line, I suffered with intense sinus issues. No matter how much healing I had done, how many cleanses and detoxes, dietary changes, climate changes etc, I still struggled with the sinus issues just the same. In fact, the issues became more and more debilitating the more inner work I did. It really was a strange experience that defied logic. Until I realised what caused the physical symptoms.

In 2024 I worked with a talented healer to assist with an ancestral curse removal from this lineage.  The day before she did the work, my sinus issues became extremely intense. She too was psychically attached by my unhealed ancestors who obviously did not want the clearing done. She eventually got through the removal and there is no doubt that what she did reduced the symptoms.

The problem wasn’t completely gone though, and every now and again I would experience flare ups. Once we completed our overseas relocation, I knew that I would do deeper work on this lineage. Admittedly I felt fear about completing the lineage healing because I worried that their attacks would overcome me. However, what kept me strong was an inner knowing that there were also healed and loving ancestors on this line who wanted to support and protect to do the healing. So, the first thing I did was to reconnect with those in light who were my wise and benevolent Northern European ancestors.

These ancestors guided me in the work and directed me to Runic initiations and apprenticeship to help cleanse my lineage. I was guided to complete three separate ceremonies. After the second ceremony, the cleansing symptoms became very painful and beyond anything I had ever experienced from a healing in the past. For three days I suffered headaches and stomach issues but by the fourth day all symptoms were gone and I have not had a single sinus flare up since.

But as my ancestors had promised, it didn’t take long before more of the Hamingja blessings started to become clear. A remembering and reclaiming of my ancestral and spiritual gifts started streaming in and continue to unfold as I allow and trust them.

Through the ceremonial work I also learned about the history of this line and how it became so dark. At some point the magic and spirit work that was once offered in heartful service for healing became used for personal gain and corrupted power. Some of the women on that line continued to use dark magic. I saw that it was originally out of survival but then out of greed. Fortunately, we always have benevolent ancestors and those women reached out to me in 2023 asking me to do the work needed.

It does us well to also remember that it is the burdens that provoke us into action because if we don’t experience difficult enough hardships, we can easily go on with our lives simply tolerating mediocrity. And sadly, most do live their lives like this; surviving rather than thriving.

I don’t believe my story is so uncommon. It’s just that I took the time and effort needed to really dive deep into what had happened and what needed to be done to clear it. Many of our ancient ancestors were in survival mode and opted for darkness over time. Those days were harsher in so many ways and so what also helped was the compassion I felt for my grandmothers who chose dark witchcraft over healing magic because I realised it often starts out of necessity of those dark times. But in the end, it takes only one who is ready to commit and turn the whole lineage around – moving it back into the light.
